Truckee Meadows Water Authority
Sharing the Gift of Clean Water
Modern Makeover for Community-Owned Water UtilityFaced with an aging website, making regular updates was a prohibitive process for Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) leaving community members frustrated (and thusly leading to a high volume of phone calls). The aim of the new responsive site was to better communicate the importance of water quality along with other important updates such as water levels of Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River. A fresh new digital brand experience with custom photography and video rounded things off.
Starting with the Foundation
During the research and information architecture phase, more goals were identified, such as providing simple and convenient calls-to-action for customers to pay their utility bills. A richer content strategy was put in place to engage customers, from how-to articles to event pages aimed at allowing users to sign up for a workshop.
With the sitemap and wireframes buttoned up, visual design concepts were developed. Branding, tone of voice, photography, and illustration styles were all defined in this phase. A mobile-first approach layout, content hierarchy, and conversion paths were also at top-of-mind.
Business Photography & Video
Several photo shoots were required to build out a media library for the new website and marketing materials. TMWA’s water cleaning and testing facility featuring scientists were captured (yes, photographing scientists is awesome). More photos and video of the Truckee River were taken in recognizable areas, correlating the Reno-Tahoe community with quality water.
